Haley Christensen

As our culture moves towards a technology and urban centered world, we reduce nature and our interaction with it. Oftentimes we place barriers between nature and ourselves. My project was to capture man made barriers that either keep nature locked in, or us locked out.

The first picture was taken with a Canon Rebel EOS XS with a 50mm lens and the settings:
ISO: 100
Aperture: f/2.5
Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec

I find this photo interesting because nature is reduced to a small symmetrical box, yet the wildness exists within.

The second picture was taken with a Canon Rebel EOS XS with a 18-55mm lens and the settings: ISO: 200
Aperture: f/5.0
Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec

This picture seems to be the opposite of the last. Instead of reducing nature to a small box, our own inventions have left us unable to connect with nature. I boosted the contrast and really tried to bring out the color in the trees, while making the foreground dark and less of the focal.
